Maxime was born in 1985 in Saint-Vallier sur Rhone, France, where he began dancing at 5 years old with Chantal Tarel. When he was 7 he started training for 5 years with Christiane Berut-Targe before securing a place at The Paris Opera School.There he began intensive Ballet training with former principal ballet dancers of the Paris Opera, such as Gilbert Mayer and Jean-Yves Lormeau. Whilst at the School, he danced various leading roles in Opera Garnier such as la Fille mal Gardee, and worked with choreographers such as Maurice Bejart, John Neumeier and Pierre Lacotte. After successfully receiving his Diploma, Maxime joined La Scala in Milan in 2003, where he danced in numerous classical ballets like Petipa, Balanchine and Cranko, interpreting solo roles like The Bluebird in Sleeping Beauty as well as contemporary roles by McGregor, Bejart, Kylian and Preljocaj.
