Kabuki - Make-up Design

Dyad 1909

Kabuki hails from the north of England but moved to New York City in the mid 1990s. His outlandish dress and make-up quickly garnered the attention of stylist/designer Patricia Field who was scouting for talent for HBO's Sex and the City. After seasons 1 and 2 on Sex and the City, Kabuki went on to do make-up in feature films. Steven Klein noticed his work in the film Party Monster, and asked him to work with Karen Elson for a Vogue Italia story, launching his career in fashion. In addition to Steven Klein, Kabuki has worked with a number of photographers including Bruce Weber, Peter Lindbergh, Karl Lagerfeld, Richard Burbridge, Jean Baptiste Mondino, Greg Kadel, Greg Lotus, Miles Aldridge and Raymond Meier. His work has appeared in just about all of the major fashion magazines. His advertising projects include fashion campaigns for Akris, Tsumori Chisato, D&G, Escada and Alberta Ferretti and beauty campaigns for Max Factor, Nars, Swarovski, L'Oréal and MAC.

Kabuki has designed the make-up for a number of fashion shows in New York, London and Paris including Dress 33, Diesel, L.A.M.B., Boudicca, Miss Sixty, Akiko Ogawa,, Manish Arora and Doo.Ri. His fabric, eyepiece and mask designs have been seen on the runways as well. His drawings have appeared in various galleries, magazines and books.

Celebrities have included Michael Jackson, Madonna, Britney Spears, Gwyneth Paltrow, Gwen Stefani, Naomi Watts, Kylie Minogue and Lady Gaga.
