The Creative Learning department delivers Wayne McGregor’s vision to nurture the creative potential of individuals, whether professional or non professional, and to positively impact on the landscape of dance – how it is taught, learned and talked about.
Over the last 20 years, Wayne McGregor | Random Dance has developed a reputation for delivering high quality and innovative Creative Learning programmes to children, young people, adults and community groups. Working in close partnership with a network of educational institutions, dance agencies, venues and other cultural organisations the company ensures that all projects can be developed to meet the specific needs of each community and over 50,000 participants have taken part in our projects across the UK and internationally.

Mind and Movement - Choreographic Thinking Tools
In September 2013 we launched Mind and Movement, a new choreographic resource designed to develop students' personal imagination skills in order to enhance the creation of new and original dance movement. The resource is based around the Choreographic Thinking Tools that have emerged from Wayne McGregor's methods in the studio and which are grounded in a decade of collaborative research with cognitive scientists.
In February 2013 we launched Random World, a project that takes our creative learning work to new international contexts. Dancers from the company travelled to Africa to work with children from the Anidan shelter in Lamu, Kenya, and to Sinthian and Tambacounda in Senegal.
Bloomsbury Festival project:
To accompany the exhibition Thinking with the Body, we delivered a project in partnership with Wellcome Collection, The Place and Westminster Kingsway College. The 6-week project, involving participants from Shift at The Place and students from the college, culminated in the creation of new dance pieces for performance at the Bloomsbury Festival and at Wellcome Collection on 19 and 20 October 2013.
Following on from the success of last year's programme we will be working again in partnership with Sadler's Wells to deliver a 6-week programme for around 200 students from five London schools, funded by The Prince's Foundation for Children and the Arts.
Autumn Tour workshops:
To support the UK tour of Atomos the company will be delivering a programme of masterclasses and workshops for school and college students focusing on repertory and creative tasks used in the creation of the work.
US Tour, Spring 2014:
Alongside performances of FAR and Atomos across the US, there will be a programme of masterclasses and workshops. The dancers will also deliver a Choreographic Thinking Tools residency at Montclair State University, working across their campus for a week-long residency with 100 dance students at University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
