About
The Creative Learning department delivers Wayne McGregor’s vision to nurture the creative potential of individuals, whether professional or non professional, and to positively impact on the landscape of dance – how it is taught, learned and talked about.
Over the last 20 years, Wayne McGregor | Random Dance have developed a reputation for delivering high quality and innovative Creative Learning programmes to children, young people, adults and community groups. Working in close partnership with a network of educational institutions, dance agencies, venues and other cultural organisations the company ensures that all projects can be developed to meet the specific needs of each community and over 50,000 participants have taken part in our projects across the UK and internationally.
Creative Learning projects in Spring/Summer 2013...
In February 2013 we launched Random World, a project that takes our creative learning work to new international contexts. Dancers from the company travelled to Africa to work with children from the Anidan shelter in Lamu, Kenya, and to projects run by the Albers Foundation in Senegal. In April, four dancers and our Creative Learning Director return to Senegal to run workshops in a small village called Sinthian and Tambaconda, a city in south eastern Senegal, 400km from Dakar.
Company dancers led a Weekend Lab at the Barbican using Rain Room as a creative stimulus, and returned to The Mac in Belfast to deliver workshops for local dance artists. They also delivered residencies in Surrey, in partnership with Cleves School with over one hundred students drawn from local schools, and at The Maltings Theatre in Berwick-upon-Tweed. They have created new repertory works for graduate students at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts, and CAT students at Laban and Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
From January to April the team was working in partnership with six other arts organisations to deliver 'Occupy', a new performance made with young people at Platform Arts Centre, Islington. Performances took place on 5 and 6 April.
In May, the company will be leading schools workshops to accompany our performances of FAR at Warwick Arts Centre.
In July, company dancers will lead a residency for dance students, and a summer school for professional dancers in Malta as part of the Malta Arts Festival.
